Default Dual UW farming Question

I tried searching this up a few times, so please dont tell me to search. What kind of necro goes with a 55 monk to farm underworld, Currently im using a build thats a 55 necro, and im wondering if a necro that teams with a 55 monk is a 55 necro or jsut a normal ss necro?

The necro that goes with the 55 monk is an SS/SV necro. With the release of factions, some necros are also packing AV (Ancestor's Visage, which is a factions duplicate of SV)

I think the basic skills are:

Spiteful Spirit [E]
Sympathetic Visage
(Ancestor's Visage)

And a lot of people use:
Arcane Echo
Desecrate Enchantments
Suffering (I don't like using that)
Awaken the Blood
Blood Ritual (Not really needed with a good 55 partner)

If you want to do mindblades as well you'll need Mantra of Resolve I think, and maybe a hex removal.

As for attributes, I think 16 curses and 7-9 illusion for SV/AV, and w/e else for the remaining points (maybe blood magic; I don't believe soul reaping needs too much since most mobs will drop dead all at once, so theres no mid-battle energy bonuses).

In typical 55/SS duo form, the Necro should not be killing Nightmares. That's the 55's job. If you draw agro and die, end of run, because the 55 ain't packing a res.

Awaken the Blood speeds up SS more than Reckless Haste, and using all 3 is just amazing.

Desecrate is OK, but not spectacular. I find that once I go through the cycle of Arcane Echo, SV, SS, Cover Hex (I use Parasitic Bond), I don't really have enough energy left for Desecrate.

Blood Ritual is absolutely not required. However if you know when to use it, it can speed up time before and between fights. And since this is all about farming, speed is king.

A 55 can only take so many hits but a 600 would own.

Reckless Haste makes them miss more often too... I've had no problems with any PuG monk dying when I drop RH on them.

Awaken the Blood adds at best 2 more points of damage to SS. How can you say it speeds up SS more then RH? I stopped taking AtB a long time ago.

I don't kill nightmares, but with PuG monks I've found that power drain can be a life saver on bad nightmare pops. It doesn't kill the nightmare, but it does keep your monk alive and that's the important part.

Avarre has put out some great two man necro builds - do a quick look around for those (mainly in the necro section)

Actualy, ATB adds 2 more points to your curses, which adds 4 to SS. From 37 to 41. That's a 10.8% increase in damage. That is damage that triggers on both attacks AND skills. Ok, you win. So in a raw math war, using melee mobs RH may defeat ATB for net gain to SS. Put it on a caster, and THEN it's no contest. However, I still say: Use the BOTH together, and we're talking synergy! (That's right, ATB makes RH better too!)

All you "need":
Spiteful Spirit
Arcane Echo
Sympathic Visage
Rez Sig

The other half your bar is debatable.

I usually carry Ancestor's Visage (more and more 55s are requiring it).

Also Reckless Haste is obvious choice. Some 55's suggest you DONT bring it though...:\

Last 2 slots are for giggles. Awaken the Blood is popular (adds 4 pts to SS). Blood Ritual is popular too (though really only useful if they are alittle short of energy after a battle, which they shouldn't be) - More and more are keeping BR at home and taking something else. Another choice is a cover hex like Para. Bond incase you don't trust your timing of putting SS on the Smites - I've only had it removed once though because of my own fault, and it recharges so fast that isnt a problem. Some bring Nightmare cleanup like Power Drain or a spell to 1 hit kill them. This is risky though, as its really up to the 55 to take care of their own Nightmares, cause if you run up close to take a nightmare, and an aataxe likes your smell...the run is over.

I changed my necros secondy to monk not too long ago, Is it possible to change him back to mesmer to do UW with, and then back to monk when I want to do MM? Also how is the 55 monk supposed to kill a dying nightmare with an ids of enchanting?

p.s. I dont have factions. should i use a stonereaper for staff? Whats the armor setup also.

You can change your secondary to mesmer at Seeker's Passage (according to my friend).

You can SS with any staff, I believe Stonereaper sells for something in the area of 10-15k, 20-50k if we have favor and you're selling it at ToA.

Once you unlock a secondary profession (in prophecies) you can go back to any person who gave you a secondary profession quest to become that profession (i.e. you unlock monk, warrior, and mesmer. You can change from monk to warrior at the mesmer person).

Good luck with your necro.

Me and a guildy UW duo quite often and he( Necro) uses the following skills:

Spiteful Spirit
Sympathetic Visage (Ancestor's Rage)
Archane Echo
Blood Ritual (only uses it once)
Desecrate Enchantments
Spinal Shivers (never uses it)
Awaken the Blood
Ressurection Signet

Curses:16
Illusion:12
Soul Reaping:?
Blood:2 or 3

And I (55 monk) pack a rez (Ressurection Chant) though I rarely use it.... stupid lag. The monk kills nightmares with a max dmg wand. I use Brohn's becuase I have it and it's decent.

Note: no cover hex. Why? Echo SV, thats 54 seconds of Sympathetic Visage and the Smites die in about 40 or so. I haven't timed it, and neither do I want to.

Really sad to see that noone even mentioned best guide ever about ss necro ( Cerb's one ) and is puttin " his own " guide
Awaken the blood is nice but there's a long list of skill wich are better.
BR are not required with any decent monk.
Deathly chill is not required since 55 'd kill nightmares.
Reckless haste is not a good choice due to the missing chance that can be deadly with many many monks
Suffering is a must as AoE covering hex

No shit , this is THE guide @ SS necro :

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/s...light=ss+guide

(try this way and smites in 40 seconds will be a LONG time )

I use:

SS
SV
Echo
Suffering
Desc
Resolve
Inspired Hex
Res sig

(for killing mindblades as well)

According to cerb, I am 'WROST NEC EVER' but that's just because I got him killed from smitehex spike (I mis-timed against a group of about 16 ). Read his guide!

Agreed.

I'm interested to hear that folks like Suffering over Reckless Haste. I have yet to lose a monk to it and the Aataxes (and smites) just drop even quicker with it on. They're both area cover hexes.

I like suffering... dunno, because I've never used reckless (tyrian nec ftw). Most likely reckless would be more powerful in some cases but considering aatxes drop in 2ss + suffering/reckless + DE, I don't think it's a matter of paramount importance.

Aataxes definitly drop faster with RH versus SS. Heck with smites I rarely have to use DE anymore - more to polish off that one or two critter that somehow managed to get divine intervention off.
